Your Questions, Answered
-
A gradual transition helps prevent digestive upset and gives your dog's system time to adjust.
Days 1–2: 25% Happy Tails + 75% current food
Days 3–4: 50% Happy Tails + 50% current food
Days 5–6: 75% Happy Tails + 25% current food
Day 7+: 100% Happy Tails
For dogs with sensitive stomachs, transition over 10–14 days.
-
A slight change in stool consistency can be normal as your dog's digestive system adjusts to fresh food.
If this happens:
Slow the transition.
Stay at the current ratio for a few extra days.
Make sure your dog has plenty of fresh water.
If diarrhea is severe, persistent, or your dog seems ill, consult your veterinarian before continuing.
-
Fresh food smells and tastes very different from kibble.
Try:
Warming the food slightly.
Mixing it with their current food.
Adding a spoonful of our broth.
Sprinkle Parmesan Cheese or one of our all-natural toppers over the food
Offering it at normal mealtimes and removing uneaten food after 20–30 minutes.
Most dogs adjust within a few days.
Feeding
-
A simple starting point:
Small dogs: about 2½–3% of body weight per day

Active dogs and puppies may need more.

Every dog is different. Age, metabolism, activity level, and body condition all matter. We're happy to help you determine the right amount for your pet.

About Happy Tails
-
Happy Tails Kitchen began with four very special family members—our two "littles," Delilah and Jethro, and our two "bigs," Tito and Daisey.
Like so many pet parents, we wanted the very best for our dogs. A few years ago, we started preparing fresh meals for them in our own kitchen using real meat, fresh vegetables, and wholesome ingredients. Before long, we noticed incredible changes. They had more energy, healthier coats, bright eyes, and they couldn't wait for mealtime.
Seeing those positive changes inspired us to share what we had discovered with other families who love their pets as much as we love ours.
Today, every meal we prepare is made with the same care we give our own dogs. We use locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, fresh vegetables—never canned—and recipes made with real meat, never fillers or artificial ingredients. We believe our dogs deserve food made from ingredients you can recognize and trust.
Happy Tails Kitchen is proudly family-owned and operated, and when you choose us, you become part of our extended family. Whether your best friend has four little paws or four big ones, our goal is the same: to help every dog live the happiest, healthiest, longest life possible.
Because around here, we believe every meal is another opportunity to show our dogs just how much we love them.
